Trek From Damthang To Tendong
Damthang (1,650m) is a place of breath-taking beauty. It takes the time of one hour to reach Rabangla. This is the reason why this hike can be combined with the Mainom walk. It will be better to stay at Namchi or Rabangla and then travel to Damthang to start with the trek because a suitable and comfortable accommodation completely lacks at Damthang.

Tendong Hill is located above Damthang. It overlooks the South headquarters town Namchi. A small and flat stretch of land at an altitude as high as 2,600m is there. A lush green forest of ancient time surrounds it. Tendong Hill is a small dormant volcano. Tendong means 'Upraised Horn'. Trek from Damthang to Tendong allows you a great vacation time.

Catch and follow the main road from the town of Damthang, heading north-east and then take the trail passing through the thick woods of the Tendong Sanctuary. This place holds great historical importance as it was here where Buddhist Lamas spent years in meditation amidst the silent peaks. As you look from the top, you are speechless. The spectacular sight is worth cherishing, spanning the plains of Bengal up to the heights of the Himalayan ranges.
Tendong is a great viewing point: to the east are the Chola peaks, to the west is the Kangchendzonga Range and the Singalila Range. Lingering here is very tempting. When you move your way down, it takes about an hour and a half.
During the Damthang to Tendong trek you will come across gorgeous green forests which are rich in flora and fauna. According to the legends, the Tendong Hill saved the Lepcha tribe from the cruel hands of the devastation of the violent flow. At this time the whole world was flooded (this legend is similar to the one in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible where Mount Ararat acted as rescuer of Noah's Ark). This place is considered to be sacred. Lepchas worship Tendong Hill even today in order to pay homage to their liberator on the occasion of Lho Rham Faat. A small monastery and a three storied tower at its top are the icing to the cake.
