    March through the main Rabangla Bazaar. Walk on the jeepable road for about 20 mins. This is the road which will take you to the Ralang Monastery. The road starts ascending. After you have climbed the ascent of the road for 20 mins, you will come across the sign to the right which marks the entrance to the Mainom Wildlife Sanctuary. The path now leaves the jeepable road and climbs again but this time, the ascent is steep. It takes you through the forest loaded with oak, chestnut, rhododendron, small bamboo, magnolia, moss, ferns, creepers and flowers in plenty. The forest is not only rich in flora but also in fauna. You can get a sight of red panda, the Himalayan black bear and many species of deer here.

    On the route, there is a small hermit home which contains the image of Guru Padmasambhava. As you climb a steep ascent for 4 hours along a well-trodden path, you reach the Top of Mainom. It towers above the town. The rhododendron display during the season of spring, especially between March and April, is worth watching here.

    On a morning which is cloudless and clear, the hill top gives the vistas of the peaks of the Kangchendzonga Range. As you move down, it does not take very long time to take you to your destination. With a time of 2 hours you slope down. If you have few days more in your hand, you can make a local agency to arrange for a gentle hike for you from Mainom hill Top to Borong Village.You can also opt for following the more double-crossing trails down to Yangang Village. Such treacherous trails were also followed by Sir Joseph Hooker who was the famous botanist of Great Britain.
