How to Reach Trichy
Trichy or Tiruchi is the common name for Tiruchirapalli in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the metropolitan cities in the state and is situated in the centre of the state. The city of Trichy is situated on the banks of River Caveri.
There are a number of tourist places in Trichy. Some prime attractions of Trichi are the Viralimalai Sanctuary, Sittanavasal, Government museum, Kudumianmalai. The most famous tourist place in Trichy is the Rock Fort temple. It is a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky outcrop. The Viralimalai Sanctuary is very famous as a peacock sanctuary. There is also a famous temple, Murugan temple in the sanctuary premises. Sittanavasal is a site of an ancient Jain monastery. There are some fine frescos in the rock cave. The government museum at Thirukokarnam has some very rare collections. Trichy has a well-developed transport system and it is well connected to important places in the state.
By Air: Trichy has an international airport that has flights to all the important cities in India, different territories and neighboring countries. Like Malaysia, Sri Lanka and other countries. This airport is the second best after Chennai airport for connectivity and there are flights to Colombo from this airport.
By Rail: Trichy is a Hub of Southern Railways and it connects Tamil Nadu to other southern states. There are trains to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, etc. Trichy railway junction has five branches leading to Rameshwaram, Erode, Tanjore, Madurai and Chennai. This railway junction is the busiest one in the country. There are more than 200 trains crossing this station per day in its division. The railway station is modern and has been upgraded with international standards. There is a press at this station which supplies printed unreserved tickets for Railway stations in Tamil Nadu. A number of express trains connect this place to other important railway stations. There are also a number of passenger trains on this route.
By Road: Trichy is well connected to various important places in the state. Trichy is connected by a number of important National Highways like, NH-45, Nh45B, NH 67, NH- 210, NH- 227, etc. there is also a ring road that connects the entire major Highway track leading to the city of Trichy. There are many private buses and state travel buses connecting Trichy to various places. There are two bus stations in Trichy. Catiram bus station is near Rock Fort temple. This station is also called as Chintamani or main Guard Gate Bus Station. There are local and City to town buses from this station. The bus services are frequent and operate 24 hrs. The bus frequency is such that, you can get a bus once in every 5 minutes to your destination.
The central or Main bus station has long distance buses to major cities and other states in the south India. There are buses to Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala from this bus station. Since Trichi has a strategic location, as it is centrally located in the state, you can get bus to any part of the state.
There are state run DCTC town buses. These cover the areas from Trichi to places like Musiri, Pudukkottai, Viralimalai, and Vallam. The city has a wide network of mini buses and city buses.
