The beautiful Lake city of Rajasthan, Udaipur opens up its doors to the tourists from all over the world to some of the exotic palaces, forts, museums and gardens in Rajasthan. A historic place no doubt, this picturesque city at the foot hills of the Aravalli ranges has a lot of tourist attractions to be explored.

Among the colorful and magnificent forts and palaces of Udaipur the first and foremost name that emerges is the City Palace. Strategically located on the eastern banks of the Pichola Lake, City Palace can very well be termed as a complex of palaces which were constructed at various times during the entire 1559 A.D. From the balconies of these royal palaces, one can enjoy spectacular views of the Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas and the sprawling city of Udaipur. The triple arched gateway- known as Tripolia is the entrance to this place. Apart from the palaces like the Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal, Dilkhush Mahal and Krishna Vilas, other notable places within the City Place consist of the Peacock Courtyard, Suraj Gokhda, Bhim Vilas and Chini Chitrashala. The Pratap Museum is also housed within the City Palace.

The Jag Niwas or the Lake Palace which is now a luxury hotel and the Sajjangarh Fort are the other prominent palaces and forts.

Udaipur also has its own share of beautifully landscaped gardens. The Nehru Garden, Saheliyon Ki Bari, Dudh Talai and Jag Mandir are some of the well known names. The Jag Mandir situated on the Pichola Lake is famous for its island garden.

The identity of the city, the shimmering lakes however is the prime centre of attraction. While the Pichola Lake remains to be the favorite, the Fateh Sagar Lake located in the north of the Pichola Lake is fast gaining popularity among the masses.

The Museums play a vital role in preserving the priceless relics of the past. Bagore -Ki-Haveli, Ahar Museum and the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal are the prime draws.

The Ambika Mata Temple and the Neemach Mata Temple are an integral part of the religious life of the Udaipur city. Especially the Ambika Mata Temple is a must visit for it is a supreme example of Indo Aryan architecture.

Other attractions include the Sukhadia Circle, Udaipur Solar Observatory and the Shilpgram Crafts Village. The Shilpgram Crafts Village is held annually. One of the greatest events of the state, this craft fair is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the country.
