Victorian Jubilee Museum in Vijayawada
Vijayawada, the business capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh has loads of attractions for people visiting this place from all over the world. Established way back, over a century ago in 1887, this is an archaeological museum. The popularity of this museum remains intact in spite of it being so old due to its unique and priceless variety of artifacts and collection of art pieces. The assortment consists of gold and silver coins, pre historic tools, arms and armory, ancient pottery, stone and copper plates and textiles and an array of other coins. One can also feast on the exquisite paintings that are showcased here. The museum also has a collection of few rare objects that are not easily found in ordinary museums; like the stone cut writings and manuscripts.
One of the main attractions of the Victorian Jubilee Museum is the statue of Lord Buddha made of black granite. The massive structure of Lord Buddha is immaculately carved and looks very impressive till date. One can also see the centuries old sculpture of Lord Buddha in white limestone too over here, which was brought from Alluru.
The Victorian Jubilee Museum also showcases the antique and priceless idol of Lord Shiva which was made in the 4th and 5th centuries. The magnificent idol of Lord Shiva undoubtedly proves the craftsmanship and sculptural deftness of those times. The idol of Goddess Durga which is identified as 'Mahishasura Mardini' is also an admirable structure.
Other than the one's mentioned above the museum has a number of other stone and bronze sculptures which are centuries old. Thankfully the antiques and artifacts kept here are all well preserved well maintained due to which people are able to see them even today.
The Victoria Jubilee Museum is located beautifully in the city of Vijayawada which has the forceful River Krishna flowing along the city. The museum is open on all days of the year except on Fridays and national holidays. The timings for visiting the museum are from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. The museum doesn't charge any entrance fee from the people, though if one wishes to carry the camera, there is a nominal extra charge for it.
