Viratnagar also popular as Bairat is an important town in Rajasthan state. Today it is among the quieter parts of the Jaipur district. There are remains of a Buddhist Monastery here. This place is very famous for the Ashokan inscriptions and the beautiful Jain temple tells you about the antiquity at this place. As the legend goes, the Pandavas have spent a year of their exile in Viratnagar.

Viratnagar houses the ruins of two Buddhist monasteries that belong to the 1st and 3rd century AD. The inscriptions on the ruins indicate that king Ashoka built the monasteries.

How to reach Viratnagar

You will have to travel 3 1/2 hours from Alwar to Viratnagar in a bus. There are no train or air travel facilities directly to Viratnagar. You can reach Viratnagar by bus traveling from Jaipur or from Alwar. Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan state and is well connected to all other major destinations across the country.

By Air: The nearest airport to Jaipur is located at Sanganer, which handles both domestic flights and the international ones. International flights to and from are available from Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Bankok, Muskat and Sharjah. There are daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai to Jaipur. By Rail: Traveling by train is very cheap and full of fun as the journey is very entertaining. Jaipur is connected with all the major cities on the broad gauge. There are train services from places like Udaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, etc.

By road: By road, you can reach Jaipur from Delhi via NH8, the national highway passes through Gurgaon. There are state Road Transport direct buses available to Jaipur from various locations.
