Viratnagar also called as Bairat is situated on the Jaipur-Alwar state highway. It lies in the vicinity of the recognized tourist destinations such as Sariska, Ajabgarh and Alwar. It is a quiet and forgotten place at present but has sites that are historically very important. Some of the sites date back to the 1st and 3rd century AD. You can explore this place as a welcome break if you are traveling on this circuit.

What to see in Viratnagar

Viratnagar has many unexplored and important sites. There is a shilalekh with rock inscriptions which is situated some 100 meters from the main road and is isolated from other places of archeological importance.

Beejak ki pahari is a wonderful site of the Buddhist Origin. These are the remnants of a Buddhist Monastery and this hill forms a conspicuous object of the valley. The remains are found in two distinct platforms and they were once the core around the stupa. There were chambers around the monastery in which the resident monks lived. There are temples with Buddhist texts of the Ashokan period inscribed on the outer walls. There is also a huge rock known as the Top or Cannon and there is a small Hanuman temple under it. There are remains of the brick wall on all sides of the platform.

Ganesh Giri temple and the museum are frequently visited places for its scenic beauty and they are also of great historical importance. This museum has about 170 articles of great archaeological importance and needs to be displayed.

Jain nasiya is situated just opposite the Mogul gate and it is constructed and renovated by the Jain community. This place has beautiful irrigation and water flow system and a small garden with children's playground.

Jain temple consists of the sanctum and a passage and there is an oblong open courtyard surrounded by high walls and beautifully carved pillared porticos at the entrance.

Mughal gate is a historical monument and is supposed to be a small replica of the Taj Mahal. There are some beautiful frescoes on the walls and the building is in good cond90ition.
